You Will Be My Witnesses by Dr. Eyasu

Well, it’s now August. There are two huge events that fill my Ethiopia-loving heart to the brim with excitement and praise to God!

First, my son, Jojo, will celebrate his fifth birthday. I can’t believe he is five! He’s growing so fast. It is these kind of special occasions that allow us to thoughtfully reflect on all Jesus did to bring our family together. I’m so thankful. (If you’re unclear about the connection between Jojo’s birthday and Ethiopia, please read this post.)

Second (and my reason for writing today), my good friend Dr. Eyasu Malsamo is finally going to be able to distribute his book on evangelism: “You Will Be My Witnesses.” Dr. Eyasu is the head of church planting for the largest evangelical denomination in Ethiopia, Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC). There are over 8,000 churches in the EKHC, representing 8 million people across Ethiopia.

Dr. Eyasu and Sutton

I met Dr Eyasu on one of my trips to Ethiopia. He drove sixteen hours (from Addis and back) to meet me and thank a Mars Hill Church representative in person for all of the support and prayers that had been given. We only had the opportunity to talk for an hour, but that was enough to spark a great friendship. Over time and through subsequent visits, that friendship has grown. I hold him in high esteem and I’m thankful that God has allowed me to know this godly man.

During his PhD studies at Western Seminary, Dr. Eyasu wrote an evangelism guide for Amharic pastors. The book was called “Evangelizing Ethiopia in the 21st Century” (Amharic). Unfortunately however, it was never published, because publishing is very expensive in Ethiopia. Part of the issue is the Amharic language is only spoken in Ethiopia. No developed countries speak it, so there isn’t really a commercial (outside of Ethiopian believers) for Dr. Eyasu to sell his book to offset his costs.

So Marci and I are honored to fund the publishing and printing of the first 5,000 copies of Dr. Eyasu’s book in Ethiopia. These will be distributed to pastors in the field and Bible college students preparing to go to the field.

Additionally, I would also like to offer “You Will Be My Witnesses” to pastors of Ethiopian churches in the U.S. If you or someone you know needs a well-written, helpful book in Amharic to better understand this theological concept or educate others in it, it would be my pleasure to mail you a free book and cover all costs. Click here to fill out a form (English or አማርኛ), so I can mail you a copy.

Please note: I do not have a 501 (c) 3 and have no economic incentive with Dr. Eyasu’s book. I simply want to see more people saved by Jesus, especially people from and in Ethiopia. Thanks for your continued support and prayers.

What a great way to celebrate Jojo’s birthday!
