The Most Faith-Filled Women I’ve Ever Met

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” This succinct definition of faith is right at the beginning of the great “Hall of Faith” chapter in Scripture. When I read that verse, my mind immediately goes to a lady named Aragesh from Ethiopia.

This video tells her story which is the very best example of church planting that I have ever experienced. She is a young women who was saved by Jesus through the faithful work of a traveling evangelist from the west. Then, at the Holy Spirit’s prompting, she goes to a town where there are no Christians, rents a house, and waits for an Ethiopian evangelist. The evangelist comes and by the grace of God and the obedience of his people, a vibrant local church body is born there. God has been gracious to provide them with their own building and land.

God granted Aragesh an amazing and effective faith. She believed in Jesus when there was truly nothing material to see and no other believers with whom to fellowship. It’s one of my favorite stories and one that will continue to cause my spirit to rejoice in God my Savior (Luke 1:47)!

Please pray with me for Aragesh and others like her in Ethiopia, that they would continue to run with endurance the race that is set before them, looking to Jesus alone the founder and perfecter of their faith. Please pray also about supporting the work of Ethiopian church planters whom God is using to share his gospel across that country.
