Persecution & Providence: Pray for Birhanu D.

by | September 1, 2015 | Ethiopia

I’m so excited to share this video with you all because it will mean that more of us are praying for Birhanu D., a faithful servant of the Lord in Ethiopia. He is a church planter to the Surma tribe (well-known for the large lip plugs worn by the women) in the Bench Maji region of western Ethiopia. Birhanu and his wife have been called by Christ to bring the good news of his gospel to lost souls because, as he says, “They have no good news.”

However, as you’ll see, Birhanu’s obedience to the call is not without persecution and severe risk and danger. The tribe to which he has been called is known for their violence and killing. Their tribalism performs ritualistic, human sacrifice. Birhanu and his wife display such bravery and ultimately faith in God and his sovereignty over their lives.

The Apostle Paul’s promise from almost 2000 years ago holds true and personal today: “Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

In addition to the requests that Birhanu gives in the video, please pray that he would “continue in what he has learned and firmly believed!” Also pray for his and his family’s protection from harm and schemes of the enemy.
